Our Church History

Cottonwood Valley Baptist Church was established under the leadership of Dr. Plato Shepherd, a church planter with the Gospel Preacher Association. Dr. Plato and Mrs. Ann are originally from North Carolina.

The first service was held in a rented store front at 114 S. Main on May 14, 2006, there were seven in attendance. The church later bought and renovated a drive-in restaurant turning it into a beautiful church facility. The building was paid-off and a ceremonial burning of the mortgage took place during the first service in the new building May 04, 2008. The church was constituted on April 24, 2010.

The church called Bro. Bill Rudd, from Florida to be the pastor on October 7, 2012. The installation of Pastor Rudd became effective on December 2, 2012 with a ceremonial changing of the church sign following the morning service.

Dr. Plato Shepherd on planting the church “Our purpose was never to take away from any other church that is preaching and standing for the truth. I firmly believe that true Christianity is more than a Sunday morning commitment, but rather is a life changing experience.”

“A New Testament Church is more than a social gathering place of entertainment or activity center. It is a called out assembly, meeting together to worship God, fellowship together with others of like faith and train Christians in the service of the true and living God. We have a burden to see the lost saved, and believers serving.”
